Normally, the “Game of the Year” feature on Press X or Die would pan out with us each pitching our top games in the run up to the year’s end and then we’d agree on our overall winner. Nice and simple, and the usual way these things tend to go.
Instead, this year we’re doing things a bit differently. Consistently, we’ve found that although we’ve played a fair few games throughout the year not all of them are from the current year, especially as many of enjoy hoarding up a healthy backlog. This means that we’ll usually have a limited supply of games for us to pick from on the current year, and also many games that fall through the cracks, since we didn’t play them until the year later. With more and more games being on “early access” and “alpha release” it also becomes more muddy on what year a game came out in too. So this year we’ll each be writing about a few of the top games we’ve played and enjoyed this year, just not necessarily from this year.
