Retailers Break Modern Warfare 3 Street Date, Lots Play Early

As of typing this post right now, videogame stat-tracking site Raptr has had its players log 12,661 hours of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 gameplay. Not bad for a game that isn’t released for another 2 days, right?

It seems that a lot of retailers have jumped the gun when it comes to selling early copies of the game, with numerous people already raking in achievements and trophies (0.12% of Raptr-using players have already claimed all of them), and copies of the game surfacing on eBay for rather extortionate prices.

Official word from Infinity Ward Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling and Xbox Live Director of Policy and Enforcement, Stephen Toulouse indicate that players won’t be banned from their service for playing the game early. There’s been no word from the PlayStation camp on what they’re planning to do, however.

If you did manage to get a copy of Modern Warfare 3 early, perhaps it’s best not to play it online, just to be on the safe side. While tweets from two of the more senior figures behind the banhammer might suggest that it’s OK, it’s still not set in stone, and tweets can just as easily be deleted.
