Friday Freeloader: Super Crate Box

This week’s Friday Freeloader thinks inside the box. I would like to assure you that today’s featured game, Super Crate Box, is of much higher caliber than that awful pun, for which I would like to sincerely apologize.

Super Crate Box, available for download for Windows and Mac OS for approximately nothing, plays like the original Mario Bros. arcade game, except there are guns–lots of guns. Picking up boxes gives you points and switches your current weapon to the new firearm, which in turn lets you destroy the ever-marching onward line of enemies out to destroy you and your precious high score. It’s available for free download at the link below.

Also, if the game’s bright retro aesthetic appeals to you, you’ll want to check out Celestial Mechanica, a game for which Super Crate Box developer Paul Veer provided the artwork. Sadly, this one costs actual money. Stay tuned for our full review.
