Humble Indie Bundle 2

Earlier this year, Wolfire partnered up with several indie developers, the Electronics Frontier Foundation and Child’s Play to provide gamers with the Humble Indie Bundle, a DRM-free multi-OS pack of 6 indie titles in a ‘pay what you want’ sale.

Now, in time for the Christmas spirit, a new bundle has arrived.

As with last time, the games are DRM-free, work on Windows, Mac and Linux and, once more, you can pay what you want. It’s recommended to pay more than $1 though, due to transaction costs they incur.

When you pay, you can divide the amount between the developers, EFF, Childs Play, and Humble Bundle Inc, with a nifty slider letting you fine tune it all. Or you can dump it all to one or the other. Oh, and whatever you pay there’s now real-time stats, tracking the average amount paid; so you can judge a good price. And for a bit of a competitive edge, it includes a breakdown across Mac, Windows and Linux.

As for the games themselves, I personally have Braid and Osmos. Osmos is a simple game where you try to become the biggest bubble in the pond by gobbling up anything smaller than you, while avoiding getting gobbled yourself.  Braid has being critically praised, though I didn’t think highly of it. Machinerium is a quirky point-and-click game with some great hand drawn visuals. As for the other two, I’m going to find out when I pick up the pack.

One significant point is that you can actually make a PayPal transaction without a PayPal account. I know with the last bundle some people didn’t take the offer as they didn’t have a PayPal account. I can’t speak for Amazon and Google’s payment service.

Update: A word of warning to 64-bit users like myself, Cortex Command will not run. I’ll message Wolfire to see if there’s anyway to get it running, but for now that’s a bit of a bummer.
