REVIEW: PORTAL 2
There are, by and large, two sorts of sequels in the gaming industry: sequels that publishers demand because they are guaranteed hits that will contribute to a company’s bottom line; and sequels that need to be made, that deserve to be developed, because the mechanics, characters, or design of the original game deserve to be fleshed out and appreciated to a degree and scope that the original never allowed for. Portal 2 is the latter, the game that needed to be made, and one that most gamers will want to [...]
Game Save Manager
Game Save Manager does what it says on the tin. It will automatically scan through your save files, back them up, and later on restore them. I would say it’s an essential download for all PC gamers. I’ve only being using it for a short while and have already fallen in love with its feature set.

Games for Windows: A Work in Progress
Microsoft’s Digital Distribution service and PC game brand recently relaunched as part of Microsoft’s new push into PC gaming. The Games for Windows brand first launched in 2006 alongside Windows Vista, with a download service and client launching in ‘08. It’s garnered a bit of a bad rap amongst gamers for high prices, limited library and a clunky client. Is the new and improved Games for Windows any better, and if not what is still missing?

Hands-On: Frozen Synapse
James is at Eurogamer Expo 2010 in London, and while he’s trying to enjoy himself at his first games showcase, he’s also trying to work and get some hands-on time. This is one of several previews of games featured at this year’s event. One of the games that really surprised me at the Eurogamer Expo this weekend was at the Indie Section: a turn based strategy called Frozen Synapse by Mode 7 Games. It’s a squad-style turn-based shooter that’s a bit hard to explain in only a sentence or two [...]
Hands-On: Brink Multiplayer
James is at Eurogamer Expo 2010 in London, and while he’s trying to enjoy himself at his first games showcase, he’s also trying to work and get some hands-on time. This is one of several previews of games featured at this year’s event. Often enough we’ve seen the term “squad-based shooter” bandied around by production companies and developers alike, but the games just end up being Rambo-style free for all shooters with the only clear objective being to kill whoever’s not on your team. Certain modes in games like Counter-Strike, [...]

Review: Heroes of Newerth
Heroes of Newerth is a multiplayer-only real-time strategy game developed by independent developer S2 Games for Windows, Mac and Linux. As opposed to traditional real-time strategy games where you control vast armies of units, Heroes of Newerth lets you control one in a constantly growing roster of over 60 heroes and tasks you with working with your team to battle the enemy forces and ultimately destroy their base.
