A few of us got into the ModNation Racers beta, an upcoming arcade racer with similar features of the Play.Create.Share introduced by LittleBigPlanet. We hope to give you our impressions of the beta, so you can see how the game is shaping up and get a bit more in-depth information on how the game plays out. If you wish to join the beta yourself you can follow the link at the end of the article for chances to get a key.

Review: PixelJunk Shooter

PixelJunk Shooter is the fourth game in the PlayStation Store exclusive series from Q-Games and despite it’s name is anything but a shooter. Before the game was released a contest was held for fans to come up with a name. Shooter ended up winning but doesn’t really describe the game. Although at first glance it may look like a classic twin stick shooter it’s actually much more then that. Perhaps PixelJunk Fluid Dynamics would be a more appropriate name, but that doesn’t  flow off the tongue quite as well, no pun intended.

Stargate Resistance

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the guys working on the Stargate MMO ‘Stargate Worlds’, which is now heading to vaporware country, are also working on an FPS. Called Stargate Resistance (bet you guessed that from the title) it is based on a post SG-1 storyline with the ‘New System Lords’ vs the SGC. The New System Lords wish to reclaim all their old planets and a few more to boot, and the SGC want to stop them.

So you may of noticed a sudden dip in any postings. Well it is christmas and a fair few of us have been busy, rounding off end-year projects and such. However we do have a mega-Modnation Beta impressions lined up, a Cave Story Review, a possible FFXIII review, after xmas I’m going to do a bit of a follow up to my video games at xmas article, and I may have some small postings on MAG, RUSE and BF:BC2 as well as what the other guys are roasting up with their chestnuts. Natal Plagued by Input Lag Issues?

Travellers Tales, creator of the popular Lego games, has stated that “[Natal is] exceedingly clever, but the lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it,”. Jon Burton went on to say “Sony’s solution will be cheap, accurate and will put buttons at your fingertips, meaning everything from action adventures to FPSes can be handled with the same input.”

GoG Passes on The Holiday Cheer

In a kind holiday gesture the folks behind Good Old Games are giving away a bundle of Tex Murphy 1 and 2, in all their 256 colour glory, for the low low price of free! Can’t say I’ve ever heard of either as they were released in 1989 and 1991 respectively but according to Wikipedia you play  as the titular Tex Murphy a down on his luck Private Investigator in a post apocalyptic, post WWIII San Fransisco. Check it out if your into old school games, played them when they were new or just […]

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Announced

Square Enix are looking for beta participants for the PC version of there upcoming MMORPG FFXIV. This seems to be the real deal for beta testing, not one of those ‘demo-named-beta for pre-orders’ type things you get recently. As you’ve no doubt worked out the beta would give you the chance to get a sneek peak at the new MMO, as well as a free MMO to play for a while. I would guess that they’ll be looking for experienced MMO’ers, specifically ex-XI guys, though new guys may have equal chance to get […]

Prinny: Can I reallly be the Hero ~ Impressions

Prinny: Can I really be the Hero ? The first spin off of the hit Disgaea series is a game that I’ve always wanted to try but not been  (until recently having just gotten a PSP) been able to dive into. Now that the PSP thing is no longer an issue I decided to dive into the game and boy was I surprised at just how solid this game is.

Review: Trine (PC, PS3)

Trine is a fantasy-themed, physics-based puzzle-platformer developed by the relatively young and unknown studio Frozenbyte, earlier having developed the relatively unpopular Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds Survivor. As of recent years there has been a lack of solid 2D platformers, with bald space marines conquering the sales charts on consoles and MMOs almost single-handedly keeping PC gaming afloat between the big hits. Trine steps up and fills this void beautifully with it’s absolutely beautiful visuals and a mix of action, physics-based puzzles, platforming and some light RPG and exploration elements.

“Videogame Minimalism”

InfinteContinues has posted a Flickr collection of well known and loved videogame characters broken down to their simple geometric shapes. If you ask me this is quiet a cool way to show which characters are truly iconic, even in a raw form you can still easily identify them. Also makes for some pretty neat avatars.

Merry Crystmas

Just got an email in my inbox alerting me to a Crysis Wars trail period coming around. Those of you familiar with Steams weekends these work in much the same way. Sign up at MyCrysis , Then when 19th comes around you have 10 days to hop in and play Crysis Wars, the multiplayer component of Crysis, for free. If you’ve yet to play Crysis or its MP modes then I strongly recommend hopping on. Cryisis has a fair range of big maps, and the nano suit helps spice things up with almost an […]

Friendship Ends in One Day

Yesterdays TF2 update added some mysterious new sound bites to the Administrator. Mostly concerning friends it set the internet ablaze with speculation on what it all means. Many guessed that it was to do with Steam Friends playing on your side, with our only hint being to listen to who these sound bites are yelled at. Well the TF2blog has updated with a new comic which adds further speculation to what the update means. With references to Saxton Hale, TF2’s Australian weapons creator and dealer, supplying new equipment, and a competition between Soldiers and Demomen it seems very much as if a new […]
